Art is initially gathered at a beginning of a tour cycle or upon signing a new client. The process is usually to put a ‘call out for designs’ and reference materials are provided. Compensation works on a per project basis. We usually pay a “kill fee” to designers to submit some ideas, and then if a design is approved we will pay a buy out fee when we receive the high res files. Compensation varies based on project budget, complexity of the art, and the designer. Rates are sometimes negotiable, and will determined prior to commencing work.

Project Background:

PATH’s five-year water project aims to identify, evaluate, adapt, and develop appropriate products and investment strategies to enable sustainable commercial enterprises to produce, distribute, sell, and support household water treatment and storage products to low- and middle-income populations. PATH’s core strategic approach for this project is to work with existing private sector household water treatment and storage product manufacturers, the private sector market, and commercial agents and focus these resources on the low-income household water treatment and storage market.

Objective of Consultancy:

As various research studies and pilot projects testing business models wrap up, a freelance writer/editor is needed to provide support to help the team disseminate what we did and what we learned to a variety of audiences.

Consultant will be expected to work with PATH staff, contractors, and project consultants to assemble, author, and edit materials under deadline for technical and non-technical audiences in a variety of formats including print and online media.

Necessary skills include:

• Excellent writing and editing skills.
• Experience taking complex scenarios and condensing them into cogent summaries for general audiences.
• Skilled at gathering and aggregating background information from a variety of sources.
• Ability to professionally conduct interviews and/or comfortable reaching out to gather additional information, as needed.
• Ability to hone communications pieces for a variety of audiences, from business professionals and product managers to NGOs and government health workers.
• Basic understanding of business and commercialization concepts, such as marketing, demand generation, market segmentation, and sales and distribution models.

Requirements:

Extensive demonstrable experience writing and editing materials for a variety of media required. Prior experience working in areas of marketing, sales, distribution, product development and/or international development preferred. Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience a plus.

Writing samples will be required to be considered for this consultancy. Relevant examples may include technical and/or business reports, journal and/or magazine articles, fact sheets, or project summaries.
